Therefore, a love of books and a desire to read is fostered throughout the Primary Years, and as children progress through the primary school they build upon the enthusiasm for reading and writing and this enables them to have increased opportunities and access to the whole curriculum.
Maths lessons are timetabled everyday in all classes. Pupils are encouraged to apply arithmetic fluency to problems and to understand and appreciate the importance of mathematics. Problem solving and investigations provide the pupils with opportunities to use mathematical skills learned, and make links with everyday situations.
At TUIS the science curriculum is focused on children exploring scientific ideas through hands on practical activities. We want to instill in the children awe and wonder in science and be excited by their learning
Pupils develop knowledge and understanding of their world focusing on topics linked to their own neighbourhood and to their family history leading to topics such as the first humans, western Asia and Egypt, India and China and Ancient Greece.
Music is a universal language that embodies one of the highest forms of creativity. We believe that music education must engage and inspire pupils to develop a love for music. It should encourage their talents as musicians and increase their self-confidence, creativity and sense of achievement.
These subjects are developed through other curriculum areas and in their own right, contributing to topic work and our assemblies. Dance and drama are embedded in all our work and celebrated at every opportunity.
Art is a real strength at TUIS and a huge contributor to the children’s development. We encourage appreciation of art in any form, from Monet’s paintings to sculptures by Henry Moore, including art from other cultures. We simply love being creative and this makes our school a great place to be.
Physical Education is high on our agenda. The Physical Education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically demanding activities focusing on specific developmental skills and attitudes.
